Rodellar, Spain

June 11th to 16th, 2012

Outdoor Climbing Workshop

Join us for a week of adventure in one of the most stunning areas of northern Spain, Rodellar! Located next to Sierra de Guara Natural Park and know for its spectacular rock canyons and crystalline waters, Rodellar is one of the great climbing destinations in the world. Our week will be filled with climbing the famous limestone, exploring the canyons and soaking up the great views from our apartment patios. While the kids are out climbing, parents will be free to enjoy the good life in Spain!

We are limiting this trip to 5 families. Spots are first come first served. To reserve your families place, contact Adam Brink and pay your reservation deposit to ABC Climbing. The deposit is 50% of total cost. All deposits are non-refundable except if the trip is cancelled.

The Guides

Adam Brink is an AMGA Certified Single Pitch guide, a teacher of 10 years, a climber of 17 years and the head coach of the ABC Advanced Climbing Team and the Horizons Climbing Club at Horizons K-8 Charter School. He has climbed extensively throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico, France and England.

Where will we be staying?

We will be staying in the Valle De Rodellar apartments.  Each apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen, bathroom and a terrace or porch with some of the most breathtaking views in the Rodellar Valley.  There is an adjoining restaurant where we will have dinner each night.

A Different Schedule

The Spanish eat dinner much later in the evening. The whole day is actually shifted much to the later half of the day. To be in sync with this we will start our climbing day with the kids later (around noon) and climb until the evening. This gives us a chance to sleep in, climb in the shade in the afternoon and then enjoy the late Spanish dinnertime (starting at 9pm is normal, if not early). While the different schedule can seem like a challenge consider it part of the adventure!

Schedule for the Week

  • Sunday - Families arrive in the afternoon and check into apartments. Dinner will start at 9pm.
  • Monday - Climbing day- Guides will have the kids climbing from noon to 7pm. Parents are free during this time. Dinner will start at 9pm.
  • Tuesday -Canyoneering day! A local guide will take interested families on an adventure rappelling and swimming through the local canyons. Dinner will start at 9pm.
  • Wednesday - Climbing day- Guides will have the kids climbing from noon until 7pm. Parents are free during this time. Dinner will start at 9pm.
  • Thursday - Via Ferrate day. For interested families we will be exploring the local cliffs and enjoying the spectacular views while following a via ferrate. (What is a via ferrate? It is a mountain route that is equipped with fixed cables, ladders and bridges. Walkers and climbers can follow vie ferrate without needing to use their own ropes and belays, and without the risks associated with unprotected scrambling and climbing). Dinner will start at 9pm.
  • Friday - Family climbing day- Kids and interested parents will leave at noon to spend the rest of the day climbing, rappelling and exploring the canyons. End of the week dinner party will start at 9pm.
